| Dusit Zoo, Bangkok (Thailand) is situated on Rama V road, near the Parliament, Vinanmek Mansion and Wat Benchamambovit. It started out as part of the Royal Dusit Garden Palace, set up by Rama V as his private botanical garden. It was converted into a municipal zoological garden in 1938, and from 1954 it has been under administration by the Zoological Park Organization (together with the zoos of Chiang Mai, Chonburi, Sonkhla and Nakhon Ratchasima). The area is 47.2 acres, and a quarter of it is taken up by lakes which you may hire a paddleboat. The animals are generally sorted according to species.
Dusit Zoo is one of the premier facilities of its kind in all of Southeast Asia with an incredible assortment of birds (800), mammals (300), and reptiles (200) in a lush shady setting that doubles as a great getaway from the noisy hectic city. There is a row of deer and a bird island. You will find, of course the large mammals of the area, such as indian elephants, rhinos and tapirs. One of the most popular sights however is a white tiger and white deer.
