From the Old City Hall, (ศาลากลางจังหวัดลำปางหลังเก่า) you bike eastwards on Boonyawart Road. You pass the government offices and you can view the bank of Southern Wang River. Turn left and cross Khelanf Bridge (สะพานเขลางค์) to Northern Wang River and you will reach Tamaho Road. Many of the houses are built for apart, not compacted together. Keep riding on Tamaho Road for 500 meters, and turn right into Phrakwaw Dontau (วัดพระแก้วดอนเต้า) on your right. Te old story mentions that in 1436 A.D. the Emerald was installed in Wat Phrakaew Dontau for 32 years before it was installed in Nakhon Chiang Mai.
The name of Wat Phrakaew Dontau mentions that Suchada, a church woman who had faith in Buddha, took the water melon offer to Phratera. (“Water melon” is called Mak Tao in the northern dialect) When she cut it, she saw the big Emerald. She carved it into a Buddha image and it had installed at Wat Phjrathat Lampang Luang at Amphoe Kao Kah until now. The outstanding Wat Phrakaew Dontau is the huge Chedi in front, the reclining Buddha behind, Vihara Luang and a House for Buddhist Priests in a monastery.
