Lim Kor Niew Goddess shrine
Fair is held at the Leng Chu Kiang in Pattani town on the 15th
night of the waxing moon of the 3rd month according to
the chinese calendar, or 15 days after the traditional Chinese New
Year. The Goddess Chao Mae Lim Kor Niew and ten other deities are
born in procession to pass through the water at the Pattani River.
They are then paraded back to go through pyres of fire in front of
the shrine before carried back to the enshrined. During the
celebrations, specially large crowds flock to the shrine to enjoy
entertainment at night including Chinese opera, performancesby
students, film screening and stalls offering inexpensive goods.
The Saiburi Fishing Competition
Is scheduled in May annually
around the Wasukri Beach in Saiburi District. Fishing is a highly
popular sport as well as an important economic enterprise. The sea
along the long beach is rich in many game fish such as the
Kratongtang and the Ito Mon, and economic fish. Apart from being and
exciting and challenging sport, the event also offers local
activities such as lamb-fighting and well-known products of Saiburi,
including all types of fishing accessories.
