From the Old City Hall, (ศาลากลางจังหวัดลำปางหลังเก่า)
you bike eastwards on Boonyawart Road. You pass the government
offices and you can view the bank of Southern Wang River. Turn left
and cross Khelanf Bridge (สะพานเขลางค์) to Northern Wang River and you will reach Tamaho
Road. Many of the houses are built for apart, not compacted
together.
Keep riding on Tamaho Road for 500 meters, and turn right
into Phrakwaw Dontau (วัดพระแก้วดอนเต้า)
on your
right. Te old story mentions that in 1436 A.D. the Emerald was
installed in Wat Phrakaew Dontau for 32 years before it was
installed in Nakhon Chiang Mai.
The name of Wat Phrakaew Dontau mentions that Suchada, a
church woman who had faith in Buddha, took the water melon offer to
Phratera. (“Water melon” is called Mak Tao in the northern dialect)
When she cut it, she saw the big Emerald. She carved it into a
Buddha image and it had installed at Wat Phjrathat Lampang Luang at
Amphoe Kao Kah until now. The outstanding Wat Phrakaew Dontau is the
huge Chedi in front, the reclining Buddha behind, Vihara Luang and a
House for Buddhist Priests in a monastery.
Route 2: Around Wat Chedi Sawn
From the Old City Hall, (ศาลากลางจังหวัดลำปางหลังเก่า)
you bike northwards through Wat Katuengchiangmun
and cross Ratsadapisak Bridge. (สะพานรัษฏาภิเษก) Then, turn right to Phratumar Road, which used to
be Wiang Muang during the Khelang Nakhon period.
Keep riding and you will see Samnak Patibattham
Susan Triluck on you right. There is the molded
figure of the disciple Buddha image, named Phra
Kasem Kemmako in front. While you’re straddle
slowly, you will see houses, building and the
life style of the people there.
On the way, you can see a field surrounded by Chedi and
huge trees. If you keep riding for 4.5 kilometers, you will
reach Wat Chedi Sawn (วัดเจดีย์ซาว)
which means twenty Chedi, (Sawn in the northern dialect
means twenty) in the center of the crossroads. This Wat that
was decorated with molded figures and huge tree are around
wat. The old story mentions that Twenty Chedi was installed
in the reign of Phrachow Milint who had faith in Buddhism.
He asked for lock of Buddhits saint’s hair to keep in Chedi
in order to pay homage, Beside Chedi, there is the Chinag
Sam art style of image of Buddha, Tanjai Buddha in small
Vihara. Sansae Tongkam Buddha, the Lanna style was also
installed in this Wat. The out standing thing of this Buddha
is that a part of the Buddha can be taken off.
