Chanthaburi is renowned for its rich deposits of precious stones. Gems
cut by the
local workers are accepted. Buying gems is available at gem
shops around the city, especially on Gem Road.
Preserved Durian
The good made from fresh durian is well known among the
people, both Thais and foreigners. Its good smell and sweet
taste is suitable for being a dessert.
Fruits
Popularly known as one of the fruit baskets of Thailand, Chanthaburi
produces many kinds of fruits which become economic plants.
The tropical fruits such as rambutan, durian, mangosteen,
zalacca, and santol, abound between May to June. The sweet
tamarind, a recent promoted fruit which has a sweet and sour
taste. The longan grows well in Pong Nam Ron District where
the temperature is cold likein the northern region of Thailand, the main region for
growing it. There are products all of the year, especially
between April – May. Fruits named above can be purchased at
Noen Sung Fruit Market and any general market in the
province.
Reed Mat Products
It is the famous handicraft of Chanthaburi with beautiful
designs and modern styles such as briefcases, purses
slippers ect. These products are available at Samet Ngam
Village and Bang Sa Khao Village.
Pepper
One of the economic plants of Chanthaburi, both black and white pepper.
The people believe that Chanthaburi’s pepper is the best in
quality.
Noodles
Chanthaburi is reputed for producing the best noodles with
the excess for export, and it has become the symbol of the
province. So, it is suitable for being a souvenir.
Crisps
Made from durian, taro and pumpkin by the housewives of Pong Nam Ron
District. It has a good smell and beautiful color, and taste
is good, too.
