Muang Phet Phra Nakhon
Khiri Fair
This is the annual fair organized by the Province
Administration to show off its local wisdom, culture,
traditions and artistic work. Visitors will enjoy many
activities such as Li-ke, Lakhon Chatri, Nang Talung, Puppet
shows, ox-cart racing, ox-cart contests, local firework
lighting, demonstration of preparing Khao Chae
(dry-cooked
rice in iced water eaten in summer)
and other
famous sweets of Muang Phet making stucco work and Thai
artistic drawing. The fair is held in the area at the foot
is held in the area at the Phra Nakhon Khiri Historical
Park. It takes New Year in January or February.

Thai Song Dam’s New Year
Festival
The festival is held on 9th
– 10th April at Wat Nong Pong, Khao Yoi.
This seems to be the time for family
reunions of Thai Song Dam people from around the country.
Everybody wears their tribal costumes. The Rot Nam Dam Hua
ceremony or pouring scented water over the hands of the
elders is performed as well as other entertainment rarely
seen anywhere else such as Mon playing Luk Chuang.

Mon Songkran
Celebration
This is the traditional Thai New Year
celebration during 13th – 17th
April and the most important tradition of the year for Mon
people in Ban Bang Laem. Important ceremonies include Song
Nam Phra or pouring scented water as a sign of homage –
paying, ceremonially over the Buddha image and monks,
releasing birds and fish, giving Khao Chae as morning alms
to monks, Rot Nam Dam Hua and other entertainment such as
playing Luk Chuang, Sa-ba Mon, and lastly the one
indispensable activity, splashing water over one another
joyfully in this hottest month of the year.
